Andrew Shirk Obituary

Andrew J. (Jack) Shirk, 96, died May 8 in Kerrville, TX. The retired retailer and World War II Army pilot was born in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 17, 1921. He graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, and the University of Missouri. Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corps after Pearl Harbor and served in Africa and India. He married Jane Ratcliffe, an American Airlines flight attendant, in April 1945, and returned to college after the war. During his career, he was an executive with Macy's and Dillard's department stores. He also was part owner of Casual Aire, a Kansas City women's clothing chain. He was involved in several civic organizations. Outside work, he loved his family, friends, golf and hunting. Jane passed away in 1979. Jack married Christine Smith in 1983. As a result, he was blessed to have a second set of children and grandchildren to love and who loved and admired him. Christine passed away in 2002. The family wishes to thank Jack's friend and caregiver, Maria Olivarez, Peterson Hospice and the Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kerrville. Jack leaves three children, Barbara McCormick (husband, Roger) of Kerrville; Beverly Reed (husband, Larry) of Indianapolis; Steve (wife, Joyce) of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren; Emily Recker, Laura Scott, Ben Reed, Joe Reed, Gabe Reed and Kate Shirk; 17 great grandchildren and his sister, Shirley Ackler, of Hilton, N.Y.
