Charles Barrington Tome passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2016. "Barry" was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Theo Ford Righter and Charles Alexander Tome. He graduated from Friends School in 1939, then attended Washington and Lee University. During World War II, he served in the American Field Service in both Europe and North Africa. After the war, Barry returned to Wilmington where he married Eleanor "Sis" Glover. They had four children. Barry was often found in the basement of their North Wilmington home building models of ships, planes and an elaborate train set. Shortly after his wife's death in 1990, Barry was blessed to reconnect with Eleanor Suzanne Coburn, one of his classmates from school who became his love and companion for the last 25 years. In 1992, they moved to Kerrville, Texas. He is survived by his partner, Ms. Coburn; his daughters, Carol Schaffrick of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Barbara Schneider of Portland, Maine; son, Peter Tome of Portland, Maine; his stepdaughters, Nancy Grubbs of Tarpley, Texas, and Susan Fabschutz of Littleton, Colorado; and grandchildren, Madeline Schaffrick of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Jackson Schneider of Boston, Massachusetts. Barry's upbeat, gentle spirit will be missed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
