David Beauchamp Obituary

David Judah Beauchamp was born September 3, 1997, weighing only 1 pound 11 ounces. During his three and a half months in neonatal intensive care, the doctors could not promise him the next twenty hours or twenty months. When his parents finally brought him home, he had scars from heart surgery, abdominal procedures, several hernia operations, and a giant strawberry birth mark in the middle of his left eyebrow. And a heart monitor. The birth mark and the monitor went away fairly quickly, but he stayed and lived and grew. He always loved stories. Initially, his parents read or told him stories. Very quickly though, he was telling them stories. Then he was telling everyone stories. Then he was writing stories. He drew pictures to help tell the stories, and so soon art was also a big part of his life. When he was ten years old, he heard the story of the New Testament with believing ears. Soon he wanted to use his drawing and stories to tell this story of stories. And, David Judah always did things with his whole heart. Once he decided he was going to do something, he jumped in. He practically skipped crawling, due to the fact that when he decided he wanted to move, he would not settle for halfway. He might never be very good at something, but you can bet if he was doing it, he was doing it as completely as possible. He was never satisfied with doing something the same old way. He wanted to do things a new way, a different way, a unique way. And while often times this was simply not possible, he always thought outside the box, just in case. He had a talent for winning over anyone that met him. His enthusiasm was contagious, and his interest in people was genuine. And while he could definitely be difficult to deal with, he was never guilty of being difficult on purpose. We learned many things from him. He taught us what faith in dark and difficult times was during his stay in the NICU. He taught us to dance like nobody's watching even if dancing is not your best talent. He taught us that sometimes you just have to splash in the rain puddles in the middle of the storm. He taught us how to roll our eyes at his bad puns. He taught us that if you try hard enough, you can do just about anything, even make a B in college math. And when he left us on September 15, 2017, twenty years after his arrival, he left us one last lesson: that all things work together for good to those who love God. While his grandfather Wes Beauchamp greeted him as he arrived in heaven, he left behind his father and mother, David and Laurie Beauchamp; his younger sister, Alyssa; his grandmothers, Margie Beauchamp and Rosemary Rost; his grandfather, Larry Fechter; aunts, uncles, cousins and first cousins; numberless friends and acquaintances; but not a single enemy. David Judah loved stories. He loved hearing them. He loved telling them. And we would love to hear your story about David Judah.
