Eleanor Hasty Obituary

Eleanor Brown Hasty, 89, passed away at home surrounded by her family on May 02, 2016. Eleanor was born March 14, 1927 in Houston to Francis Rue Brown and Harrie Dell Anna Brown. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown also attended Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton and TCU in Fort Worth. She met and married Edward Stillwell Hasty in Baytown. She raised 4 children; Corrin Bruce, Ray Lynn, Kristy Francis and Nancy Eleanor. Eleanor was a Girl Scout leader in Baytown for the San Jacinto Girls Scout Council for many years. She organized camping trips, assisted the Girl Scout Council in Day Camp activities and led many "cookie" sales. Eleanor was also a water safety instructor who taught swimming and certified life guards. Eleanor was an activist for animal rights. She once rescued a cat from the back of a dog catcher's truck without even asking. Ed and Eleanor moved to Conroe in 1968, where she became the first elected female chairperson to the Republican Party. She was an intricate part in the family business, Hasty Construction, while living in Conroe. Later Ed and Eleanor moved to Del Rio, where they raised their grandson, Sammy Hasty. Her community activities included, Del Rio Garden Club, Cub Scout Leader and active Lutheran Church member.
