John Hainey Obituary

John Hainey 84 of Kerrville,Texas passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Riverhills Rehabilitation Center following a valiant fight of many years with Parkinson's Disease. He was a retired Xerox Corporation Optical Engineer. John graduated from Acton Technical College now Brunei University in London,England and the University of Rochester. His proudest achievement was becoming a private pilot! He was a member of the American Optical Society, Bloomfield NY Scientific Club, The American Wine Society, Civil Air Patrol, past President of the Scots of the Texas Hill Country, and past President of the Bristol NY Historical Society. He was a member of The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Kerrville and "honorary" member of the JCHC (Jewish Community of the Hill Country). John volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul specializing in fixing sewing machines. He loved his home and garden, good wine ,music and food. He was a supurb winemaker. John, born in Glasgow,Scotland cherished his Scottish heritage. He proudly wore his Gunn Tartan full regalia to many Robert Burns Nights often reciting Robert Burns poetry in the language of the day. His cap badge belonged to his father who served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment. John is survived by his wife Margaret A. (Peggy) Hainey, sister-in-law Jean C. Jones of Frisco, Texas, dear friends Larry and Corinne Coon of Fairport NY, many family members in Scotland, his special nephew, Stewart Evans,of Germany plus Kerrville friends who appreciated his humor, intellect, and gentle soul. Toby Tucker Dachshund will miss sitting at John's feet. Burial will be in White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford, New York. A Scottish farewell will be held at a later date in Kerrville, Texas. There will be a tribute with close friends in New York sometime in the Spring. (A headfelt thank you to all, in whatever capacity, who lovingly attended to John and me as we navigated his medical journey. Kudos to Riverhill Rehabilitation, Peterson Hospital ICU. A special thank you to Dr. McKenzie, Dr. Baines and Dr. Garred. My neighbors Romain and Mary Slabbaert, John and Carol Aceti, Dr- Don Burda are given special recognition.)
