Courtney Qualtrough, 69, died Tuesday in Kerrville. A native of Houston, she grew up in Bellaire, TX, graduating from Bellaire High School. She attended North Texas State University and graduated from Texas Women's University with a B.S. in nursing. Embarking on her nursing career, she worked at Park Plaza Hospital and subsequently for Visiting Nurse Association in Houston. She moved to Center Point, TX, in the early '90s and went to work for the VA hospital in Kerrville, specializing in geriatric care. She retired from the VA in 2013. For several years, she served as a captain in the Medical Brigade of the Texas State Guard. A lover of music, Courtney was a long-time member of the Hallelujah Hand Bells at Kerrville United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at Triple H Equitherapy in Pipe Creek, TX, and the Raphael Community Free Clinic in Kerrville. She is survived by her sister Susan Qualtrough, New York City; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Fred Hegi, Little Rock, AR; sister and brother-in-law Kerrie Qualtrough and John Moncure, Austin, TX; niece Gretchen Hegi and her husband David Raupp, Little Rock; nephews John Moncure and William Moncure, Austin; and friends Debbie Martinez, Ann Saur, Judy Robertson, Diana Rees, and Esther Brisendine.
