Frances Elrod Obituary

Frances Louise Elrod went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2018 after a struggle with cancer. She was 73 years old. Frances Louise Elrod was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 21, 1945 to Issac Leard (Ike) and Lou Irene (Stubblefield) Elrod. She grew up in Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley town of San Benito. Fran married William Oliver Bridges on September 5, 1964 in Tivoli, Texas. They were blessed with three children-Richard Kevin (Ritchie), Bonnie Lynn, and William Issac (Billy) to go along with Oliver's children Tim and Jannett. After living for several years in Robinson, Texas, the family moved to Center Point in late July 1978. A week after their arrival, the remnants of Tropical Storm Amelia caused torrential flooding in the Verde Creek near their house. The raging waters swept the house away and Bonnie and Ritchie were lost in the torrent. Fran worked over three decades for both Sid Peterson and Hill Country Memorial Hospitals-mostly involved with Home Health Care and Medical Billing and Coding. She was an avid gardener and late in life became actively involved in craftwork-selling her wares at Fredericksburg's Trade Days. Fran spent her last years living near her niece Shannon, nephew Mike and became part of their immediate families. She was the beloved matriarch of "The Hill." Fran was always up for an adventure, joining her nieces and nephews on multiple vacations. She enjoyed spending time with her friends-especially excursions to the casino. And she became fast friends with just about everyone she met. Fran was not a member of a particular church or denomination-she was the Church. Spared from the tragic flood that took two of her children, Fran resolved to live each day in service to others. She was preceded in death by her son Ritchie and daughter Bonnie; parents Ike and Lou Irene Elrod, ex-husband Oliver Bridges, sister Dorothy Smart and her husband John, and faithful canine companion-Cher. Fran is survived by her son Billy Bridges and wife Renee of Wasilla, Alaska, son Tim Bridges and wife Allison of Cranfills Gap, daughter Jannett Pieper and husband Freddy of Center Point, granddaughter Jennifer Dowell of McGregor, grandsons Brian Pieper of Harper and Kevin Pieper of Austin, great granddaughter McKinzy Pieper of Harper, niece Shannon Edwards and husband George of Center Point, great nephew John Ross Edwards of Corpus Christi, nephew Mike Smart and wife Kari of Center Point, great nieces Kellie Smart of Center Point, Lauren Curl, Ashley and Savanna Wolfe, and Shelby Curl of Fredericksburg, and faithful canine companion Benjamin Laertes. The family appreciates the support and compassionate care provided by Hill Country Hospice over the last few weeks of her life. Special thanks to Denise, Oralia, and Pam for the loving care given to both Fran and the rest of us during her final hours here on earth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or the charity of your choice. As per her wishes memorial celebration will be held in the spring.
