Joyce Ashbeck Obituary

Joyce (Scheelk) Ashbeck passed away peacefully at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, Texas on November 14, 2019 with her family at her side. Joyce was born in Marshfield Hospital on July 25, 1934 to Henry and Lydia Scheelk. She was raised near Stratford, Wisconsin. She had owned a pet pig. She went to a one-room school near Fenwood through 7th grade, until her dad sold the farm and her family moved to the Colby area. Joyce had attended another one-room school for 8th grade, and then went to Colby High School. She had graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 1956. She landed her first teaching job at Wabeno High School, where she taught math for 16 years. Upon moving to Wabeno, she met Albert Ashbeck. There Joyce attempted to teach three of her future brothers-in- law. Joyce and Al were married June 14, 1958. Her teaching years were sprinkled around having five adorable children and Dave. In 1978, Joyce and Al purchased the Hilltop Supper Club and they ran the business for 12 years. After Al retired in 1997, they moved to Wyoming, where they resided for the next 11 years. After which they moved to Iron River, Michigan in 2008. Al and Joyce have spent many winters in New Mexico and Texas. They made many friends on their travels. They were married for 61 years. Joyce loved to sew, do crafts, cook and spend time with her family. She enjoyed reading, solving Sudoku puzzles and tossing bean bags. She loved traveling with Al and going on their numerous adventures together. She always gave good hugs. Joyce felt she raised a good family - hard, dedicated workers in what they do. They all have God in their lives. She also enjoyed the never-ending razzing from her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia (Shadof) Scheelk; father, Henry Scheelk; grandson, Tyler Vander Pas; and son in law, William Trentman. Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Albert Ashbeck; children, Allen Ashbeck (Stephanie), Thomas Ashbeck (Diane), David Ashbeck (Kate), Lori Ashbeck, Linda Ashbeck Vander Pas (David) and Jodi Ashbeck Burton (Randy); sister, Bonnie Scheelk Furrer; grandchildren, Joe, Danielle, Ashley, Bryan, Tanner, Cory, Tony, Travis, Emily, Jonathan, Jason, Ryan and Claire; great grandchildren, Paige, Ally, Pryce, Landon, Jordan, Taryn, Becky, Olivia and Tyler. The family would like to thank the Peterson RMC staff for their compassionate care and support. A memorial will be planned at a later date.
