Lars Wolberg Obituary

Lars Wolberg passed away on October 24, 2019 at age 77 in Kerrville, TX after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. Lars was born Howard Carl Wolberg on May 17, 1942 as the only child to Alfred and Mable (Larson) Wolberg in Bagley, MN. He took great pride in his Norwegian heritage and relished the fact his birthday coincided with Norwegian Constitution Day. Lars grew up around Bagley, MN and was raised by his Dad, his Mom's brothers, and his maternal grandparents after his Mother passed away when he was 3 years old. Lars graduated from Bagley High School in 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He spent 4 years serving at multiple military installations across the United States including Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City, SD where he met and married Sally Ann Klapperich. Lars and Sally's legacy together are their five sons: Dan, Tim, Terry, Pat and Josh as well as a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. After his military service, Lars spent 40 plus years as an electric lineman for West River Electric in Wall, SD, Rural Electric Association in Wells, MN, and Gary Job Corps in San Marcos, TX. Lars and Sally also owned and operated Wall Lanes in Wall, SD for 7 years. Anyone who worked with Lars respected his work ethic, honorable character, pride in a job well done, and inviting sense of humor. Outside of work Lars dabbled in many interests and mastered several. His fascination with airplanes started at a young age and led him to become a private pilot as an adult. He loved to fly and enjoyed anything associated with aviation throughout life. He enjoyed designing, remodeling, and building in and around every house he lived in. Lars loved old country music and classic western movies which led to learning to play guitar and even wrote a few unreleased songs his family found this week. After he retired in 2012 he enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and throughout Europe. One of Lars' highlights was a week in Norway with his five sons in 2016 where they visited their Wolberg homestead and met some long-lost relatives. Over the years Lars served multiple professional and community organizations including the Line Superintendent Association, State Safety Committee, Airport Commission, Volunteer Fire Department, and Cable TV Commission. Lars was preceded in death by his parents and his uncles that helped raise him. He is survived by his sons, Dan and wife Angela of Kerrville, TX, Terry and wife Carol of Spring Branch, TX, Tim and wife Jennifer of Doland, SD, Pat of Warner, SD, Josh and wife Amy of Eden Prairie, MN; 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and loving friend Karen Wagner of Victoria, TX Lars requested to be cremated and for a small private celebration of life by his family. His ashes will be distributed between multiple locations meaningful to him and a headstone commemorating his life and military service will be placed in the cemetery in Bagley, MN.
