Barbara Blackwell Obituary

Barbara Nell Gillit Blackwell died at home Thursday, April 4, 2024 in Harper, TX from Lewy Body Dementia.  She was born November 16, 1954 in Raymondville, TX to Nora Belle Johnson Gillit and Morris Yerrington Gillit. 

Barbara married the love of her life, JC (John Clifton) Blackwell on October 15, 1977.   She worked in the Special Education Department at Wil-Cam for 19 years. 

JC and Barbara were best friends having spent most of the past 48 years side-by-side.   They made wonderful memories fishing, riding Harleys, and then retiring to the Hill Country.  Barbara loved frogs, going to the beach, and sitting on the back porch listening to birds.   JC was a devoted husband to Barbara; he exemplified the true meaning of partnership, unwavering support and love.  He cared for her these final years with compassion and devotion. 

Barbara is proceeded in death by her parents and siblings: Charles Melvin Gillit, Nellis Jack Gillit, Joy Frances Gillit Moore.

She is survived by her loving husband, JC; brother, Wendell Lynn and wife Jeanelle Horkman Gillit of Nassau Bay, TX; nieces, Jody Lynn Gillit, Gina Rae Gillit Foster, Ginger Ann Gillit Foster Shullanberger, and Terri Lee Gillit Foster; nephews, Judson Wade Gillit and Gary Paul Gillit Foster; great-nieces, AnnaMarie Rose Gillit, Chelsie Shullanberger, Katharine Foster, and Ashley Foster; and great-nephews Allen Wade Gillit, Ethan Alexander Gillit, Pololín Paulino-Foster, Charles Shullanberger, and Paul Foster;  sister-in-law Debora and Jimmy Goss, nephew Dewayne Goss, niece Heather Goss, great-nephew Sebastian Taylor Goss, great-niece Megan and brother-in-law Earl Moore.

In addition to her family, she will be dearly missed by JD, Samantha, Lacey, and Kasey Dutchover who brought her much joy and support. 

Special thanks to the wonderful neighbors in Kimble Oaks, Dr. Shannon Klump, Dr. Ryan Patrick, and Peterson Hospice for their compassionate care over the years. 

Services will be held at a later date.
