Barbara LaVerne Burton, 97, passed peacefully from this life with her son, John holding her hand on April 5, 2023, at her home in Ingram.
She was born on Aug 23, 1925, at Pacific Hospital in Los Angeles, CA to John and Helen Imlay. Barbara graduated from John C. Fremont High School in LA and went on to attend Los Angeles College of Nursing. In her younger years, Barbara worked with the Naval Department of Justice as a civil service associate. She then went to work for Westinghouse Industrial Division of sales, where she worked until retirement.
Barbara married Oscar Loera and they built a beautiful life together for 45 years until his death in 1997. Never thinking it could be possible to love again, she married Paul Burton and only after 2 brief years together, he died in 2003. For most of her adult life, she lived in El Paso, TX. In 2017, Barbara settled in the Hill Country making the Ingram Oaks Retirement Community, her forever home.
She enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting and was a fantastic multicultural cook and baker. Barbara volunteered with Al-Anon for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Mary Imlay; her husbands, Oscar and Paul; siblings, Margaret, James, and Roy; son, Wayne Rodgers; and stepdaughter, Linda Dale.
Barbara is survived by her son, John Loera (Angie) of Ingram; daughter, Debbie Stout (Robert) of El Paso; step-children, Debbie Lynn Davila (John), Laura Gotz (Steven), and Eileen Chandler; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to any animal rescue organization.
