Obituary

Charles Henry Jones went to his heavenly home on April 27, 2023, with his children and his devoted Maltipoo, Katy, at his side. He has rejoined those he loved who have gone before him. Charlie was born on March 12, 1932, in Harlingen, Texas. At the age of 5, the death of his doting mother and the resulting separation from his infant brother was followed by a childhood with little affection. His empty upbringing shaped the family man Charlie became. When he saw on a 7th-grade bus the young girl he knew he would marry, his life began to change. Charlie and Ethel Ruth Bryant married at the age of 17 and later had three children. Charlie’s family was always the most important part of his life. About his family, Charlie professed, “Of all men, I am most blessed.” Charlie and Ethel were married for 59 years before Ethel died from cancer in 2008. Over the years, they traveled extensively in their RV.  Charlie later married Beverly Sellers Atkins, and Beverly became the glue that allowed a sense of “family” to return. She brought laughter back into their lives.

As a young man, Charlie was a member of the National Guard in Austin, Texas.  Afterward, he had a long career as an architectural hardware consultant. Later, Charlie started a very successful business repairing and restoring old Winchester and Marlin rifles. Guns were always a big interest and hobby. He passed on that love to his son and his grandson.

Charlie is survived by his wife Beverly; children Sheila Trudeau, Sharon (Sheree) Hess, Gary Jones and wife Lydia Jones (his 3rd “daughter”); grandchildren Nicole Mock and husband Tommy, Julie Posey and husband Matthew, Ryan Hess, and wife Jennifer, and Amanda Hess; great-grandchildren Griffin and Sterling Oldham, Jenna, and Sadie Mock, Silas and Riley Posey, and Henry Fahring (named after Charlie); brother Dan Jones and wife Connie; niece Elaine Parks, nephew Dennis Harris, great-nephew Jason Parks, and great-niece Shelly Kooistra. Charlie’s first wife, mother, father, stepmother, and one brother pre-deceased him.

Charlie had such an infectious sense of humor, always gave others the benefit of the doubt, felt he was owed nothing but what he worked for, and when his wife Ethel was diagnosed with cancer, his response was “Why not us” instead of the usual “why us?” He lived his entire life ensuring he always kept his word no matter the cost. He was a “good man” by any standard, kind, and caring, loved and respected by family and friends. His children particularly feel “most blessed” by him and their mother. They could not have had more supportive, loving parents.  His family will miss him beyond measure but feel so blessed by God to have been “his family.”  Charlie was a member of the Church of Christ. He trusted God in all things.

The family wants to express their most heartfelt appreciation to Peterson Hospice with a special thank you to  David Smith, RN. David has the true heart and soul of a hospice nurse, and no one is better suited for this work.
