On Feb. 09, 2021, Charles “Charlie” L. Samford, 77, went to be with the Lord. He was born on Jan. 10, 1944 in Lytle, Texas to the late Wilmeth and Floreine Samford. Charles proudly served his country as a Seabee in the US Navy during 1962-1966 (Vietnam 1965-66) and then in the Army National Guard.
In 1967, Charles married the love of his life Linda Kalka in Villa Acuna, Mexico. Charles and Linda made their home in Ingram for the last 49 years. Charles retired from the maintenance department at the Kerrville State Hospital. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, NRA and served on the VFW Color Guard.
Charles was loving, witty, selfless, sharp as a tack, funny, giving, never met a stranger, always had the right thing to say at the right time and had a strong hug to make everything better. He loved his family and spending time with friends. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, a good game of Wahoo and search a word. Charles prided himself in the love he had for God, his country, his work ethic, being honest and loyal.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bertha Black and Sherman Samford.
He leaves behind his wife, Linda; son, Allen Samford (Julie); daughter, Tracy Schmidt (Brian); honorable daughter, Candice Edwards (Mike); sisters, Rita Tillman (Winston) and Dorothy Allsup (Tommy); brothers, Donnie Samford (Lana) and Brookie Samford (Sheila); grandchildren, Kyla Janecek (Chase), Hannah Schmidt, Victoria Johnson (Bryan), Elizabeth Samford and Evan Samford; great granddaughter, Maelynn Janecek; expected great grandson, Kenneth Johnson; and numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, honorary grandchildren and a host of family and dear friends.
