Kerrville - David William Gorgol, 74, left his earthly body on September 15, 2022, in Kerrville. He was born on Feb. 20, 1948, in Binghamton, New York to the late Phyllis and David Gorgol.
David enlisted in the Army in 1967 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1970. During those 3 years, David was a combat medic on the Cambodian border in the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for being a sharpshooter with a rifle.
David went to school at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and graduated with honors in May 1998. He was extremely proud of achieving this accomplishment being that he struggled with many learning disabilities his whole life.
During his life he worked as a property manager and a Senior Contract Administrator. He was also the sole proprietor of The House Smith in Chula Vista, CA. The tools he used to maintain the properties were handed down from his father and are still being used today.
In 1993, David married Meryll L. Gorgol in San Diego, California. They lived in Chula Vista before moving to Laguna Vista, Texas and eventually settled in Kerrville in 2006. While living in San Diego, David was a member of the Toastmaster.
David enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching the many birds in the yard and listening to the rainfall. Something he is known for was his love for playing the accordion, which he has done since he was 8 years old. He actually still owned the accordion to be passed down for his sons and grandchildren to cherish.
He was survived by his wife, Meryll; children, Jason M. Gorgol, James A. Gorgol (Aleida), John Paul D. Gorgol (Colina); sister, Sandra E. Heneghan; grandchildren, Alyssa, Ethan, Samantha, Owen, Adam, Hazel; stepchildren, Sheila M. Case (Smitty), Tim Case, Tonya Goughan (Billy); 6 step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
