David Lowell John, known to friends as "Dave," 80, beloved husband, step-father, and a proud veteran of the Air Force, passed away on January 24, 2025, AT the Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital of San Antonio. He was there for rehab after suffering a major stroke on December 24, 2024. David and his wife, Shelley, lived in Ingram, Texas. He was born to Lila Mae Numenkamp John and Edgar Lowell John on March 12, 1944 in Denver, Colorado. He attended Lutheran schools for kindergarten through eighth grade and then transferred to the public school system in Colorado.
David joined the Air Force on April 20, 1962 through January of 1968 where he was honorably discharged as a SGT E-5. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree and became a master potter and jewelry maker. David was a self-made entrepreneur and had many businesses throughout his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lila Mae Numenkamp John and Edgar Lowell John; sisters, Thelma Mae John of Denver, Colorado, Katherine Ann Capps-Lockard of Denver, Colorado.
He is survived by his beloved wife of seventeen years, Shelley Beth John of Ingram, TX; step-daughter, Tara Sylvester of Ingram, TX; step-son, John (Shelby) Sylvester; grandson, Xander Sylvester of New Braunfels, TX; mother-in-law, Marjorie Straumann of Ingram, TX; brothers-in-law, David Straumann of Center Point, TX and Scott Straumann of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Marilee Andrews of California; and his beloved service dog, Cinnamon John.
David had a passion for many hobbies and interests. His personal qualities touched everyone who knew him. His friends and family will remember him as "The Man, The Myth, The Legend." David had a love for his country, his family, and all things nature. He made a positive impact on those around him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Trinity Baptist Chapel in Kerrville, TX. Enter on Bluebell Rd at the chapel doors facing the road.
