Diane Marie Boutin, known to friends as Drina and to her nieces and nephews as Tia, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of April 3, 2023, after struggling with COPD for several years.
She was born in Massachusetts on April 14, 1952, and would have been seventy-one-derful this month. She always remembered everyone’s birthday with a card, phone call or text, and was known for leaving little notes and gifts at the homes or workplaces of her friends to let them know she was thinking of them.
She loved growing up in Central Texas and was a proud graduate of the Tivv Class of 1970. She earned her nursing degree at Schreiner University and spent many years helping and entertaining patients in Hill Country doctor’s offices and assisted living homes. She had a special place in her heart for the elderly and treated them as she would her grandparents. She also formed heartfelt bonds with special needs children she was honored to care for: Her love and affection also extended to the animal world. She always had multiple pets, including dogs, cats, goats, sheep, chickens and horses, appropriately spoiling each one.
Her parents, Richard and Lillian Boutin (Dick and Little), preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter and best achievement, Lillian Bargh, and Lillian’s sweetheart, Jake Martin of Fredericksburg. She was the oldest of the Boutin clan that survives her and includes, in order of appearance: sisters Daisy Owen and Ruth Avery (Chris) and brothers Art Boutin, Richard Boutin (Jean), and Charlie Boutin (Annie), as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews both locally and across the country.
The hole that is left in our hearts and world by her passing is immeasurable. She was always up for an adventure. She loved gatherings of family and friends and live music — specifically Johnny Rodriguez and the Paul Thorn Band and only missed events in the recent past when she absolutely could not attend any longer. You could tell when she was misbehaving (which was often) by the laugh behind her hand and the unconvincing look of innocence. She was one of a kind, remembered for her fiery spirit, quick wit, and sense of humor. She will live on through the beautiful art she made through the years and the stories told by those who knew her best.
Her life will be celebrated in early summer, with the details still to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite wildlife rescue or children’s charity.
