Doris Roepke, 90, passed away from this life on Jan. 15, 2022 in Kerrville. She was born in Kansas City, MO to C.C. and Margaret (Longsdorf) Flagg. She attended schools in Tulsa, Chicago and Kansas City, where she graduated high school in 1948. She worked days and attended night school, eventually getting a BS in technical journalism in 1958.
Six years were spent with several government contractors writing overhaul and maintenance manuals in Milwaukee, WI, then resigned to marry Warren and moved to the family farm in Kansas. Severe allergies forced Warren to leave the fam and take an design engineering jab with Butler Mfr. Co in Kansas City. He retired after 20 years and the family moved to Bend, OR, where they were active hikers and canoeists, and singing in a large community choir.
Health and other reasons motivated them to move to Kerrville in March 2014, where Warren's health initially seemed to improve but that quickly changed and he died June 9, their 52nd anniversary.
Doris' interest were many and varied; including all kinds of critters, the amazing beauty and intricacy of nature, music, flowers, meeting new people, and a good laugh with friends. Doris was a member of Kerrville Bible Church and of the Maj. James J. Kerr Chapter of the DAR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; her husband and numerous cousins.
Doris survived by her son, Bruce and his wife, Karen; and several other family members and dear friends.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Fort Scott National Cemetery in Kansas.
She requested no flower but memorials can be sent to Kerrville Bible Church, Hill County Youth Ranch or the Hill Country Veterans Center.
