Dorothy Sturgeon Obituary

Dorothy Alice Sturgeon, 94, left her life on Earth August 18, 2024, in Kerrville, TX. She was born September 5, 1929, in Jamestown, NY to parents Carl and Alice (Revelj) Pihl.

After graduating from Jamestown High School, Dorothy met William Dirling. In 1948, the two married in Jamestown and together had three sons. In 1969, following William’s passing, Dorothy moved the family to Simi Valley, CA where she met her second husband, Gerald Sturgeon. Dorothy and Gerald married in 1978. In 2007, Dorothy moved to Texas after Gerald's passing and settled in Kerrville.

Dorothy worked for JCPenney in the clerical field, from where she would eventually retire.

When Dorothy was not working, she loved being around family. Her favorite times were visiting family in New York, California, Jamestown, spending summers in Michigan, and going to BBQs and making memories with those she loved. She loved to dance and listen to country music and always took care of everyone. 

In Dorothy’s passing she is reunited with William Dirling and Gerald Sturgeon; brother, Bill Pihl (Lillian); sons Craig, Steve and Larry Dirling; granddaughter, whom Dorothy raised, Jamie Dirling; and her parents, Carl & Alice Pihl.

Dorothy is survived by her brother, Roy Pihl of Jamestown, NY; sister, Diane Johnston (Alfred Barber) of Ann Arbor, MI; Daughter-in-law, Rosemary Dirling of Kerrville; grandchildren Randy Dirling (Eileen), Robert Dirling of Kerrville, Craig Dirling (Jackie) of Conroe, TX, Joshua Dirling (Lauren) of Simi Valley, Mathew Dirling (Renee) of Duarte, CA, Sean Johnston (Beth) & Nora Johnston, Corey Winn;  great-grandchildren Alyssa, Randy James of Kerrville & Stevie Dirling, Julia Gallegos, James & Kaley Dirling of Simi Valley, Jordan & Ciena Dirling of Colorado Springs, CO; dear friends, Frank Diemer and Marilyn Labarre; nieces & nephews Ron Pihl (Desiree), David Pihl (Patty), Eileen Martin & Roxy Kenner (Stephen) and their family members.
