Eleanor Jane Mahoney Garrison, known to many as “Janie,” passed away at her home in on November 20, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born September 25, 1952, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Donald W. Mahoney and Sara (Hartley) Mahoney. She grew up in Darlington, PA alongside her younger brothers, Donald T. Mahoney and Daniel P. Mahoney, and attended North Western High School, where she was a cheerleader and voted “Most Popular.”
Janie married Jim Bonanno of Beaver Falls, with whom she had two children, Jenna Bonanno-Oguneye and Joshua Bonanno. After their divorce, she later married Walter Garrison. Professionally, Janie worked as a registered nurse in various capacities.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; her children, Jenna(Tayo) and Josh; her brothers, Donny and Danny; five grandchildren, Chloe (Zayin) Leos, Gioia Bonanno-Garcia, Morenike Oguneye, Meji Oguneye, and Ife Oguneye; two great-grandchildren, Xochipilli and Cuetlaxochi Salinas-Leos; and her beloved pup, Oreo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Sara.
Janie was known for her outgoing personality, sharp wit, and her talent for decorating homes to be warm and inviting. She often described herself as unapologetically bold, and she lived life on her own terms.
In accordance with her wishes, Janie will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. Her family will honor her memory privately in ways that are meaningful to them.
