F. Dale Bengtson Obituary

F. Dale Bengtson, 89, passed away in Kerrville, Texas on July 23, 2024, due to kidney failure.

Dale was born on October 22, 1934, to Paul and Opal Bengtson in Madrid, Iowa. After graduating from Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana in 1953, he went on to study music at Anderson College (now Anderson University). He met and fell in love with Linda Moody in Anderson, and they were married in 1957.

After graduation, he received a master’s degree in music at Wichita State University, then pursued a Ph.D. at Indiana University, which he completed at University of Missouri, Kansas City. Dale and Linda returned to Anderson in 1960 where he started his career as an instructor of music at Anderson University, and retired as the Dean of Arts, Culture, and Religion in 1995.

Upon retirement, Dale and Linda spent their time in Bloomington, Indiana, Grand Haven, Michigan, and Sarasota, Florida. Dale played golf and tennis and served on the Board for the Friends of Music at Indiana University. Dale and Linda were proud supporters of the Florida West Coast Symphony, in Sarasota. In Kerrville, they supported and enjoyed the Symphony of the Hills and Hill Country Chorale.

Dale and Linda have three children, Bradley, Beth, and Kristi. The family unit enjoyed summers at the Lake of the Ozarks together, water skiing and boating.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his sister, Beverly Riffle; his children, Brad Bengtson, M.D., Beth Beckman, M.B.A., and Kristi Bagnell, M.D.; his grandchildren, Brittney Rowan, Emily Bruns, Brielle Carroll, Paul Beckman, Nate Bengtson, and Will Bengtson; and four great grandchildren, Silas, Dovie, and Pax Carroll, and Catherine Rowan.

The family requests that donations be made to the Bengtson Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships for fine arts students at Anderson University (Contact Brent Baker at babaker@anderson.edu, or 765-641-4138).

Memorial services will be planned in the future.
