Gary Frankland Obituary

Gary Glenn Frankland, a cherished son of the Frankland family, bid farewell to the world on April 13, 2024, at the age of 72 in Kerrville. Born in New Jersey, he lived, worked, and received his degrees in California, North Carolina, and most recently Kerrville, Texas.

Above all else, Gary Frankland was a fixer. He was known for his abundant energy, quick humor, and a passion to help and fix everybody and everything, through his vast professional skills and loving manor. Whether it was a car, a cold, or a frown, Gary would go to any length to fix it. He loved to understand the inner workings of things and breaking from all teaching and tradition, he loved to find new and creative ways to fix what was broken. He valued happiness, freedom, self-sufficiency, curiosity, adventure, and knowledge. He was someone who jumped into everything he was passionate about with both feet and an open mind. He was not focused on money, power, or influence, but walked through the world as a traveler on a journey.

Gary was an OCC Certified Welder, a certified electrician, and later in life a graduate of University of California School of Nursing and DeVry Technical Institute. His accomplishments in life were, among countless other achievements, being honored as Registered Nurse of the Year at Columbia Hospital in Brunswick County, North Carolina, for outstanding employee and leadership performance. He served as a leader of nursing staff at many of the medical institutions he worked for throughout his lifetime and was cherished by his colleagues and friends.

On days off, he loved to be in nature or in a workshop. He loved tinkering, building, hiking, canoeing, and visiting the wilds of wherever he lived at the time. His love for music was deep and well known. He played the guitar, trumpet, and was captivated by many of the 1960’s era San Francisco bands, most notably Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Gary was a naturally good father and grandparent. He was not judgmental, he was self- empowering, and he was always calm and empathetic. Being a man who always wanted the people around him to be happy, he was especially good at salving the pains of growing up. As a parent, if presented with a problem, which was usually discussed covered in grease over some type of engine, he would listen, sympathize, offer loving advice, and offer a solution so simple that it imbued a sense of confidence and understanding to anyone.

Gary leaves behind his wife, Trang; his son, Todd Frankland (Sarah); his stepson, Thomas; his brothers, Fred and Wayne; his sister, Sally; his mother, Marjorie, two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed, and as we remember Gary, let's treasure the moments and memories through love and the stories we will tell.
