George Mitchell "Mitch" Boyes, 96, passed away peacefully, April 15, 2022 in Kerrville. He was surrounded with his loving nieces, Judy, Barbara, Janet and nephew, Richard, who sang and prayed him into the arms of his Heavenly Father. He was a tough old bird but Parkinson's finally took his body.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (2010) and is survived by his sons, Bruce (Marilyn) and Glenn and grandchildren, Anna and Aiden.
Mitch was born in Chicago in 1925, the only child of Scottish parents, George and Sarah, who moved back to Ayshire when the Great Depression destroyed their dreams in America. He grew up in Scotland with dual British/US citizenship and joined the US Army, which he felt offered better opportunities after the War. He was proud of being a WWII veteran, serving in Army as a heavy equipment technician in occupied France and Germany. He had a long career as a mechanical engineer, working for NCR, Bell Aircraft, Schreiber Cheese, and finally Atlas Cold Storage in Green Bay, WI.
Mitch liked to fish, hunt, and camp; worked on his HO model railroad, and take photographs back in the days of 35 mm film. He and Betty retired to the Hill Country, where he was active in - and helped construct- Kerrville Bible Church. Until recently, he successfully used a personal computer and loved making birthday cards for the other assisted living residents at Juniper Village. This year he received excellent care from Alpine Terrace, River Hills Heath and Rehabilitation and Peterson Hospice and Home Care.
Long Time Traveler
These fleeting charms of earth
Farewell, your springs of joy are dry
My soul now seeks another home
A brighter world on high
Farewell kind friends whose tender care
Has long engaged my love
Your fond embrace I now exchange
For better friends above
I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down ...
