George Perry Reed Obituary

(SERVICE PENDING)

On the evening of July 31, 2022, George Perry Reed, 66, went home to join the love of his life, Judith.

Perry traveled a path most have never gone down and leaves behind a tremendous legacy to help others. He was a 36 continuous year member of Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholic Anonymous. An achievement of great importance and meaning. Perry helped a large number of others find recovery from the same addiction that he faced.  His personality helped him not shy away from the newcomers to the program and he was always down for a challenge. When someone says, he never knew a stranger and always there to lend a hand, they were talking about Perry. He was generous soul, not just with money but with his time. Over the last few months of Perry’s life, the phone call and visitors has been overwhelming showing the love and support for a man that has helped and cared for so many others during his life.

Perry was born on January 05, 1956, in Oklahoma City, OK to the late, Helen and Jack Reed. The family was a military family moving around a lot during Perry’s early years. They finally settled in Kerrville in 1969. Perry was a graduate of Tivy High School and after graduation joined the US Navy. Serving only a brief period in the Navy, he took pride in his time served and sought out to show support to other Veterans. He always took part in the Wreath Around America program. Perry was honored with a Patriot Ride in June as fellow rides took the trip from Kerrville to Medina, calling it “Perry’s Day of Thunder”.

Perry was a master carpenter working in the Hill Country with his specialty being fine cabinetry. He also worked as a federal contractor during Operation Iraqi Freedom helping to support the US. During his retirement years, Perry taught woodshop at the local high school.

In times of reflection on his life, family remembers Perry as a coffee connoisseur, “don’t give me no decaf”.  He was an avid Star Trek fan; he loved the new, old and spin off shows and was looking forward to the new show fixing to come out. Perry was a historian and could have hour long conversations telling stories. He loved his motorcycles and the time spent on it; with his wife, with family and friends or just alone traveling the road seeing new things and going places.

Perry is survived by his son, Josh Reed and wife, Victoria; daughter, Karla Nicole Reed; grandchildren, McKinley, Emma, Alan, Alyssa and Ashlynn; stepdaughters, Jennifer, Lauren and Ashley; and his sister, Helen McClure.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the 720 Club to help others along the way.
