Ina Janelle “Jan” McClung, 96, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all passed away on Nov. 25, 2024. A guiding light and source of endless love, always our mother, forever our friend.
Born in Wichita Falls, Aug 03, 1928, the only child of Coleman and Florence Thornton. She grew up in Wichita Falls. Jan married Thomas Ashby McClung on May 27, 1950.
She traveled extensively with her husband as a proud Navy wife, moving 17 times in 12 years. Jan raised in the Methodist Church and was always a devoted and active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls from 1964 to present. She played an active role in the church in a leadership as a trustee, Sunday school teacher – youth, missions committee, President of the Women of Faith and her beloved Busy Bee quilting group. She worked at Sheppard Air Force Air Training Command from 1963-1985 as an accountant for the N.A.F. During her time, she won numerous awards; N.A.F. Chief of Accounts Control MWR Division- Outstanding Performer (1977), N.A.F. Federal Women’s Program- “Women of the Year” (1983-85), this award she won 3 years in a row, USAF Meritorious MWR Award Outstanding NAAFFMB Supervisor (1983-84), M.W.R. Financial Operations- Supervisor of the Year (1984), and N.A.F.M. Meritorious Award- MWR Outstanding Supervisor of the Year (1985).
Jan not only found time to excel in everything she did, but also found time for her hobbies; square dancing, bowling, hand quilting with her Busy Bee friends, where they would quilt tops for people across the US as a church fundraiser. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Tom McClung and youngest son, Mark Randell McClung.
She is survived by her oldest son, Michael K. McClung and his wife, Flora of Kerrville; daughter in law, Linda McClung-Hoff of Wichita Falls; grandsons, Philip McClung and his wife, Ashley of Austin and Eric McClung and his wife, Rachel of Austin; great granddaughter, Lola Kay; as well as many other cousins and friends, who will love and miss her dearly.
Always the epitome of unconditional love and joy- rest in peace Mom, you will always be in our hearts.
The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to Alamo Hospice and Riverpoint assisted living center for the amazing care, love and friendship extended.
Celebration of life will be held at 11 am, Friday, December 06, 2024, at the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Alamo Hospice of Kerrville or St. Mark’s UMC of Wichita Falls.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Wright’s Funeral Parlor, Kerrville.
