James Lee Larson, 57, of Medina, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Kerrville.
He was born on April 5, 1968, in Heidelberg, Germany, on the U.S. Army Base to Judith Wicks and Douglas Larson.
Because his father served in the military, James lived in many places throughout his life, including Tacoma, Orting, and Kapowsin, Washington; Cassville, Missouri; Heidelberg and Stuttgart, Germany; Okinawa, Japan; as well as Cedar Park, Kerrville, and Medina, Texas. He attended Mt. Tahoma High School in Washington.
James worked in landscaping, maintenance, and cooking, and he volunteered his time at Assemblies of God.
A true outdoorsman and lifelong learner, James was a two-time Master Angler fisherman, an artifact hunter, flint knapper, forager, animal whisperer, hiker, traveler, bird watcher, and music lover. He enjoyed making things by hand and valued the craftsmanship of others. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of a cold beer and a cigarette.
James is survived by his girlfriend of 14 years, Kristi Todd; his father, Douglas Larson; his siblings, Liana Clevenger and Doug Larson; his niece, Brandy Lee and husband, Andrew, and their son, Elijah; his nephew, Daniel Retzolk; and cousins, Diana Schneeloch and Joanna Stallone.
He is also remembered by many close friends, including Charlotte and Terry Trick, Johnny and Jule Knox, Dora Catalano, Carl and Rose Mackay, Karen and Scott, Deb and Chris Ditto, Nick Schu, Bonnie Carlson, Bob and Diane McCullough, Frances (BB) Deck, and many others whose lives were brightened by his presence.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Wicks, and her partner, Jerry Cook.
A Celebration of Life will be held in 2026 in Medina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arthur Nagel Community Clinic, Bandera.
