James Arlington Wingo, 81, passed away peacefully at home in Kerrville, Texas, on February 25, 2025, with his beloved wife by his side.
James was born on January 19, 1944, in Sudan, Texas, to Leona Pearl and Thomas Porter Wingo. He grew up in Sudan and graduated from Sudan High School before attending Texas Tech College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. During his time at Texas Tech, he was a proud member of Phi Kappa Phi.
Before settling in Kerrville, James lived in New Orleans, Louisiana. While in Louisiana, he married the love of his life, Susan Wingo, in Lafayette. He built a successful career as a geophysicist with Shell Oil, where he dedicated many years of service. Additionally, James honorably served in the United States Army for two years.
Beyond his professional life, James was a devoted volunteer, giving his time to the Boy Scouts and Explorers and serving as a baseball and soccer coach. In his free time, he enjoyed playing tennis, woodworking, and reading.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Pearl and Thomas Porter Wingo. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Wingo, and their children: James D. Wingo (Christie) of Monument, CO; John D. Wingo (Kari) of The Woodlands, TX; and Melissa Anderkay (Glenn) of Illinois.
A memorial service will be held on March 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kerrville, TX.
