Mrs. Janie Sue Guffey Wilson Age: 79, Resided in Bandera TX, Passed into her heavenly home June 24,2025. Janie was born July 11, 1945, in Mission TX to Orville F. Guffey(Speedy) and Winifred Janssen Guffey(Mrs. G). Janie was raised in Rio Grande City Texas. She was one of many Guffey children. Janet, Jerry, Jimmy, Jody and John Mark.
Janie was raised by parents who were strong community leaders and faithful servants of the Lord. After graduating high school, Janie attended the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. While she was at school, Janie met the love of her life Horace Ben Wilson, whom she quickly renamed Bill, he was a Tennessee country boy serving in the US Army stationed at Ft. Hood. On March 27, 1963, Bill and Janie married. They had three children. Robert(Bob), Walter Duane, and JerriLynn.
Janie worked outside of the home most of her life. She was a butcher, a substitute teacher, an executive assistant for the military version of parks and recreation while her husband was stationed in Germany, an ad salesperson for the Leaf Chronicle in Clarksville TN, and an accounts payable clerk for Quebecor Printing. She was also an Army wife, pastor’s wife as after Bill retired from the military he became a bi-vocational pastor. There was not a time where she wasn’t involved in some sort of service or ministerial role with their local church.
Janie’s most cherished roles were that of Mom and Nana. Because Bill was military, there were many times when she maintained the home life as a single parent during her husband’s numerous deployments. She was a strong woman from a long line of strong women. She raised her children to know love, respect, discipline and the love of a heavenly father. Her pouring into the lives of her 3 children looked different for each one of them as she recognized and celebrated their unique individualism. She demonstrated for her children what love and devotion looked like in the relationship she shared with her devoted husband of 59 years. Janie was at the birth of all 5 of her grandchildren. Jessica, Micha, Hannah, Hayden and Matthew. Nana was not a sufficient name for her in their eyes. They all made the name possessive calling her “My Nana” This cherished role continued with the birth of her 7 great grandchildren. Rocket, Eddie, Colt, Janessa, Annabelle, Scarlett, and Jackson, whom she loved deeply.
Janie is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wilson; father, Speedy Guffey; mother, Winifred Guffey; her son, Walter Duane and her son in law Michael Wells. Also her brothers Jim and John Mark Guffey.
