Jerry Arthur Beck

Jerry Arthur Beck passed away on May 29, 2025 in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 81. Born in Houston, Texas on March 28, 1944, Jerry was the son of Jairus Thornton Beck and Blanche Murphy Beck.

Jerry's love of God and his compassion for others led him to pursue a life of service as a minister, social worker, and counselor. After graduating from the seminary, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970 and served as a chaplain in Okinawa ministering to marines going to and returning from Vietnam.

When he left the Marine Corps, Jerry returned to his beloved Texas to continue his ministry and he settled in the San Angelo area. After relocating to Kerrville, he was critically injured in an automobile accident that left him unable to walk for many months. While recovering, he was admitted to Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. When his recovery was complete, Hilltop hired him as their social worker. Jerry's last position before retirement was with the Salvation Army running their Reconnect program for adult men recovering from addiction.

Jerry was an active and respected member of the recovery community in Kerrville. Over the years, he helped countless people on their journey to recovery by his willingness to lend a hand, a ride, an ear, or a shoulder when called upon to do so.

Jerry loved to read and was an avid collector of crystal, porcelain and fine cookware. After marrying his wife, Shirley, he embraced his new role as both husband and “Dog Dad”. He was involved in several Playhouse 2000 productions with his favorite role being the Mock Turtle in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Jerry's wife of 18 years, Shirley Beck, passed away one week before him. He is survived by his sons Jairus and Jason Beck and his daughter, Allison Lemire as well as his stepchildren, Danny Greenhalgh and Christina Dresser and their spouses, Judi Greenhalgh and Todd Dresser.

Jerry and Shirley Beck's joint interment service will be held at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery on June 20 at 2:45pm. Their joint celebration of life will be held at the Dietert Center on June 21 from 2pm-5pm.
