Jerry Alan Durbin,69, passed away from this life October 30, 2023 in Kerrville. Jerry was born in Abilene on June 16, 1954 to Al and Pauline Durbin. At the age of five, his family moved to Electra, where he lived for 35 years. He graduated from Electra High School in 1973. On March 18, 1977, he married Reba Beasley and they were married for 46 years. To this union, their son Gregory Alan Durbin was born. Jerry loved to watch and "bench coach" any and all sports activities that Greg was actively involved in. He tried to attend every football game and baseball game, Greg played in. After they moved to Kerrville, he attended all of his grandson's football, soccer, basketball games, and as many school functions at his failing health would dictate.
Jerry loved God, family, fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and the Texas Longhorns.
He was employed at CE NATCO for 13 years, starting as a sand blaster working his way up to an Arch Welder. Due to the declining economy, he was laid off, so Jerry went to work at the Vernon State Hospital working as a CNA for 5 years and later was employed by United Regional Health Care Systems for 18 years as an Orthopedic Tech. Due to his declining health, he was lid off. At that point time, the decision was made to move to Kerrville to be closer to their son's family. Somewhere in all of this, after a year of intensive study, he became a licensed massage therapist.
Jerry was actively involved in the Electra Chapter of the Lion's Club serving as President for 2 years. He also served as President of the Electra Little League Baseball for 2 years and co-coached Greg's team. Jerry also served as a Deacon over the grief and condolence committee for Riverside Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Reba of Kerrville; son, Greg of Kerrville; grandson, Ty and Trace of Kerrville; their mother, Courtney Surles of Kerrville; sister, Julie Parks (Mike) of Shallowater; sister in law, Linda; sister in law, Sheba Thomas (Larry) of Wichita, Kansas; sister in law, Carmen Lewis (Mike) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sister in law, Neva Russell (Mike) of Van Alstyne; sister in law, Brenda Beasley of Vinita, Oklahoma; brother in law, Steve Vogl of Gilmer; 10 nephews, 9 nieces and a host of great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Durbin; brother-in-law, Hoyt Beasley; and sister-in-law, Treva Vogl.
A memorial celebration will be held, Saturday, Nov. 04, 2023, at Riverside Church of Christ. The family has requested that those attending the celebration wear bright colors and a smile. A tribute to Jerry's life will be given by Kevin Kasperek, minister for the Riverside Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any monetary contributions be made to the Tipton Children's Home, Tipton, OK and the youth program at Riverside Church of Christ, 625 Harper Rd, Kerrville, TX 78028.
