Jesse Claude James, a resident of Hernando, Mississippi went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2024. He was born in Fredonia, Kansas on May 18, 1937 to Eugene George and Claudine Agnes Pease James.
Jesse was a retired Navy veteran. He served on several ships primarily as a Submarine Tender and a Torpedo Mate. He was very proud of his service to the country.
Jesse was a member of New Day Fellowship Church. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years and served in leadership roles in both the York and Scottish Rite lodges. He also served in the Shriners. Some favorite pastimes over his lifetime were motorcycle riding and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene James and Claudine and Carl Burrow, Sara Riley James (2007-2024), Letha Gillespie (1960-2004), Mary Davis James (1957-1959). He is also preceded in death by his children, Claude L. James and Teresa G. Honey and his brothers, Walter Eugene James and Bobby L. James.
He is survived by his children, Edward (Cathy) James, Jesse (Julie) James, Raymond (Wendy) James, Gerald (Melissa) James and his “bonus” children, Dennis Rozier, Laura (Cliff) Freeman and Regina (Kirk) Stokes. Jesse also leaves his grandchildren, David (Natalie) Vires, Bobby Vires, RJ James, Mary (Seth) Seamans, Jessica James, Mike James, Chris (Tabatha) James, Whitney (Chad) Brady. And his “bonus” grandchildren, Andrea (Tres’) LeTard, Randy (Jennifer) Tatum, Melissa (Zach) Gould, Riley Stokes, Brett Stokes, Daniel (Rhea) Freeman, Joshua (Amber) Freeman, Lori (Josh) Suggs and a host of beloved great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Memphis National Cemetery, 3568 Townes Ave. Memphis, TN 38122, on January 31, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Chris Shelton, New Day Fellowship Church, officiating.
