Joan Gregory Obituary

Joan Dolores Gregory died January 24, 2022, in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 84. She was born Joan Dolores Hess in Allentown, New Jersey on April 13, 1937. She was one of four children born to Everett and Marion Hess. In 1953 she would meet Homer F. Gregory after his repatriation from the Korean War. They would marry in 1954 in Tampa, Florida. They had three children, Deborah, Patrick, and Tammy. They were married 59 years until Homer passed of Alzheimer’s in 2014.

Homer and Joan started their family in Tampa, Florida, and would remain on the Florida Gulf Coast in Lutz until 1973. Latter moves took the family to Missouri and Oklahoma before they returned to the Gulf Coast in 1980, this time to Rockport, Texas. Upon Homer’s retirement, Homer and Joan moved to the Texas Hill Country, and built their home in Center Point, Texas where they were surrounded by the nature and wildlife they loved.

Joan was the heart of a home filled with love, music, laughter, and God. Mom was the ultimate homeroom mother, chaperone, driver, baker, Sunday school teacher, and costume maker. Mom’s sewing and quilts are treasures and beautiful to behold. Mom loved cooking, ceramics, crafting, and collecting antiques and collectibles, but most of all her family. Mom had a beautiful voice and cut an album when she was a teenager. She shared her joy on song and God with her family and church family.

Joan in preceded in death by her husband, Homer F. Gregory; son, Patrick Gregory; grandson, Nathan Eric Cohea; parents, Everett and Marion Hess; siblings, Ernest Hess and Eva Gregory.

Joan is survived by her sister, Barbara Ware of Louisa, KY; daughter, Deborah Holloway (Chuck) of Rockport, TX; daughter, Tammy Gregory (Phoebe Crouch) of Cedar Park, TX; daughter-in-law, Sherry Gregory of New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren, Nigel Gregory of Austin, TX, Brennen Cohea (Quynh Cao) of Seattle, WA, Shasta Gregory of New Braunfels, TX, Byron Cohea of San Diego, CA; great grandchildren, Berlin Strawser (Abby) of San Antonio, TX, Teagen and Sebastion Gregory of College Station, TX.

Private memorial to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions to be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mom’s caregivers through her journey with Dementia. A very special thank you to Dr. Young, Ali and the Peterson Hospice Team during her stay at Riverhills; Maria, Derek, and Dago at River Pointe; and Shyan and the staff at Gulf Pointe Plaza and Village. While our hearts are saddened that Mom is no longer with us, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is whole again and rejoicing in Heaven.
