John Henry Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of John Bernard Henry shares the news of his passing on April 1, 2021 at the age of 76.  John was born to parents John Bernard Henry, Sr. and Eloise Hart in Joliet, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather A.W. Hart, brother, Robert Bruce Henry, and son, Christopher Hart Henry.

John moved to Angleton, TX and we loved to hear the stories of him picking cotton in the fields, as a young boy.  However, his passion and love for art kept him out of the fields where you could find him using his natural born talents as an artist and creator.  He graduated from Angleton High School in 1963 and joined the United State Navy.  After returning home from Vietnam, he attended Stephen F. Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  John continued his talents and chose different career paths, in the Arts, throughout his adult life.

He was a caring and loving father and Poppie with a wonderful sense of humor.    He loved sports and spent many years coaching his three sons on the soccer fields, their little league teams and shooting hoops in the backyard.  His loving support continued as his grandchildren’s interests and hobbies grew.  You could find Poppie cheering at the stock show, dance recitals, soccer games, and track & field events.  John Henry always made people smile and feel so comfortable around him.  His quick wit, good humor and unfailing kindness will be sorely missed by all.  Well Johnny, rest easy.

He is survived by sons, Brian Walker and wife, Carol of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Nathan Henry and wife, Ashley of Ingram, Texas; and grandchildren Taylor Sim Henry-Hawkins, Blake and Caroline Henry, as well as numerous other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Watermelon Run for the Fallen.
