Judith King Obituary

Judith Ellen King of Kerrville, Texas went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, Dec. 31, at the age of 95.

Judy was born in San Antonio, Texas on Aug. 18, 1926 to Robert Perry O’Brien and Judith (Taylor) O’Brien. Judy’s father passed away when she was very young. It was very difficult growing up during the Depression and Judy’s family moved around alot during her childhood years.  She lived in San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi and El Paso. Judy attended Incarnate Word Academy in Houston for a short time before graduating from high school in Corpus Christi with honors. Following high school, Judy attended Droan’s secretarial school.  Judy moved to Houston and worked at several different places including Bering’s Hardware, Comet Rice Co. and eventually Peat, Marwick Mitchell where she met the love of her life, Dell Roy King.  They were married in 1951 in Virginia, where Dell served as 2nd Lieutenant with the Marines.  At that time, Judy was working for American Viscose Corporaton. Judy and Dell moved back to Houston and lived there until 1954 at which time Dell was transferred to São Paulo, Brazil with Anderson Clayton & Co.  They spent the next 32 years in São Paulo where Judy became fluent in the Portuguese language.  Judy loved living in Brazil and would often reminisce of the warmth of the people and the wonderful time she spent there.  In 1987, they moved back to the USA and called Kerrville home.

Judy was a loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, and great grandmother and loved her family very much.  Judy was a devout Catholic and continued to praise the Lord throughout her life.  Some of her interests included sewing, gardening and cooking. Her greatest passion was dancing.  She had a very vibrant and warm personality and was always the “life of the party.” Her favorite snacks included gummie bears, chocolate, hot dogs, ritz crackers and she never passed up a good cup of coffee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert P. O’Brien and Judith (Taylor) Adams; her stepfather, James (Papa) Adams; her sister, Joyce Ann McClure and her brother, Robert O’Brien.  Judy is survived by her daughters, Mary Azar of Kerrville and Nancy King of Houston; son, David King of San Diego, CA ; grandsons: Jason Medcalf (Karina) of Miami, FL; Robert Azar (Kari) of El Paso, TX; Steven Azar (Lisa) of Kyle, TX; Alan Azar of Kuwait, and great grandsons, Daniel, Kiah and Ian.

Judy will leave a lasting impression on all who knew her and we will miss her terribly.

Our special thanks to Randy Reegan, Sylvia Manriquez and Patsy Bell for their loving and dedicated care over the past several years.

The family wishes to take this time to reflect on Judy’s life and will have a Celebration of Life service at a later date.  Donations in Judy’s honor may be made to Schriners Children’s Texas Hospital or another cause of your choice.
