We are sad to announce the passing of Kyle Wayland Townsend of Kerrville, Texas. He peacefully passed at the age of 92 on September 29, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Kyle Townsend lived an extraordinary life during his 92 years. He was born on February 12, 1931, in Charles City, Iowa to Leland and Bernice Townsend. While serving his country in the US Marine Corps as an aviator for 20 years, he was awarded distinguished commendations and medals such as the Purple Heart, and UN Service Medal, amongst many others. After an exemplary career as a Military Officer, Kyle continued his passion for flying as an Executive Pilot until he retired to spend more time with his family he loved so dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Mary T. Townsend, of fifteen years. He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Joann Montgomery Townsend, with whom he had three children; Kyla (Byron) Baker, Terri (Todd) Mascagni, and Scot (Susanne) Townsend. Eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive him.
Lt. Colonel Townsend will be interred with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
