A faithful servant, Lawrence Eldon Moffett, 88, went to be with the Lord on the morning of September 20, 2022. Lawrence was born October 1, 1933 in Medina, Texas to Leo Elinor Moffett (Keese) and William Enoch Moffett. He was raised in Medina where he attended high school until his senior year when he answered his country’s call and enlisted in the US Navy. He served during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Shields. After completing his military service, he joined the Houston Police Department at which time he completed three years of college at Sam Houston State University specializing in criminal justice. After retiring from the Houston Police Department with 22 years of service, he worked with Avis for several years.
Lawrence was very family oriented. Although he never married or had children of his own, he was close to his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and enjoyed visiting and traveling with them. Anyone who spent more than a little time around him knows he enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with them. He also enjoyed working on his tractor. He moved back to Medina in 2020 to be closer to family.
Lawrence’s Christian family was extremely important to him as well. He was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. He spent many hours studying his Bible and enjoyed discussing spiritual matters with friends and acquaintances. He always invited others to attend church with him. Furthermore, he was a wonderful neighbor. Everyone who lived around him held him in high esteem, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Evelyn Reese, brothers Carl, Maurice, Walter (Inkey) and Richard Moffett. He is survived by his sisters, Sylvia Wilson of Medina, Elaine Crouch and Winifred Thomas of Hamilton, Texas and Dolores Uribe (Jose) of Medina, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation and sharing of memories will be held for Lawrence on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:00am at the Church of Christ, located at Hwy. 337 and 16, in Medina, Texas. A burial with full Police Honors and Military Honors will be at 11:30 am, at the Oak Rest Cemetery, Medina, Texas. Lunch will be served at the Medina Community Center following the internment.
