Martha Helvenston Massie of Kerrville, TX, formally of Victoria, TX, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was born in Beeville, TX, on April 7, 1945. The daughter of the late Lyman Helvenston and Elizabeth McCurdy Helvenston.
For more than 40 years, Martha was a devoted member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Victoria, where she served as an Eucharistic minister and lector. Martha found comfort in Eucharistic Adoration and praying the Rosary. Martha co-authored 2 books about St. Mary’s.
She is survived by her two children; daughter, Melissa Aparo (Duane) of Pflugerville and son, Matthew Massie (Breeze) of Victoria; her 7 grandchildren, William Brogan, Elizabeth Palarski (John), Madeline Brogan, Aubree Becker, Harmony Becker, Allie Becker and Hailey Massie. Her great-grandson, Patrick Brogan Palarski. And by her two sisters Elizabeth Galloway and Lucy Hamm.
Martha believed firmly in the promise of eternal life and often quoted John 11:25: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” Her family takes comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into the arms of the Lord.
A Mass of intention for her will be celebrated on March 7th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Victoria at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the parish or to a Catholic charity of your choice. A private burial service will be held at a later date in Kerrville.
