Mary Casillas Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Casillas, 77, of Kerrville went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side.

Mary was born in Yuma, AZ to William Curtis Redmon and Rhoda Mary Hearn on December 26, 1942. She graduated from Salinas High School in Salinas, CA in 1961. In 1962 she enlisted in the Army at the age of 19 and proudly served for two years. Mary has always said that serving in the Army was some of the best years of her life. In 1964 her mother unexpectantly passed away. Mary was honorably discharged from the Army to help care for her younger brothers and sister.

Mary and husband, Julio (Cass), moved to Texas in 1974 upon Cass’ retirement from the Army. They chose Kerrville to be closer to family and thought a smaller town would be an ideal place to raise their daughter. Mary held various jobs throughout her life. Many remember her time spent working in the cafeteria for Notre Dame Catholic Church. The last job she held was the one she was the proudest of. Mary became a Hospice caregiver after the death of her husband in 1996. She found that giving care, comfort and helping people pass from this life with dignity to be one of her greatest achievements.

She is preceded death by her parents, husband, Julio V. Casillas, brothers George Allen Redmon, Richard Curtis Redmon, and sister Glenda Casey.

Mary is survived by her step-daughter Christine Casillas of San Antonio, step-son Phillip (Rosanne) Casillas of San Antonio, daughter Cassaundra (Shannon) Neutze of Kerrville, brother Roy (Theresa) George of Reno, NV, brother Donnie Snyder, grandchildren Phillip Charles (Diana) Casillas, Christopher (Brandy) Casillas, Eric Casillas all of San Antonio, Christian (Julia) Neutze of Boerne and Hannah Neutze of Kerrville.

Due to Covid-19 no services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in the Spring of 2021.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made the American Heart Association.

The family would like to give special thanks to the doctor, nurses and staff at Peterson Hospice of Kerrville and especially Allison Elro for providing guidance to her family and for providing Mary with care and the ability to pass from this life with dignity and grace.
