Mary Kroll Obituary

Mary Jo Kroll, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family on October 21, 2023, in Fredericksburg. Mary’s years were filled with so many memories with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren but she was truly blessed to have spent the last year with her oldest sister Gladys as they were living at the Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehab Facility together.

Born on August 21, 1944, in Blanco to Brice and Alma Pollard. The family lived in Johnson City, where Mary attended Johnson City High School. Mary worked as a CNA at the local hospital and care centers. When her girls (Sandra, Karen, Joycelynn, and Linda) were born the family lived in Austin and later moved back to Johnson City where her son Edward was born. For several years, Mary worked for Blanco Products in Blanco, where they manufactured various types of bank deposit bags. She then moved to the Blanco Senior Apartment complex in Blanco. Before moving to Fredericksburg, she enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Good Samaritan’s Organization in Blanco.

Mary had a true green thumb and could give life back to plants, where others thought there was no hope. One of her favorite things was to grow Mimosa trees with their delicate pink blooms. She would always have seedlings growing and enjoyed sending you one home. Also, she was growing a Rosemary plant at the Nursing Home for others to enjoy. She loved yellow roses, adored clocks, and collected frogs. Mary enjoyed feeding the birds and especially the hummingbirds as she had feeders and birdhouses outside of her window.

Mary was a devoted mother to her children, always going above and beyond for them. With her sweet bubbly personality, others flocked to her. She always thought it was the funniest thing to sneak up on you and scare you or give everyone a “hard time”. She was a true blessing to everyone that knew her near and far. Her legacy of giving to others will continue in the lives that she touched during her 79 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Randall Pollard and Doris Rust.

Mary is survived by her children, Sandra Schumann of Fredericksburg, Karen Nitsche of Yantis, Joycelynn Dechert and her husband Michael Dechert of Fredericksburg, Linda Dechert of Johnson City, and Edward Kroll of Blanco; grandchildren Kurt Young, Gavin Meyer, Casey Windhauser; Heather Caplick, Garrett Nitsche; Lisa Lara, Mindy Dechert; Dal, Danielle, Cheyenne, and Trent Dechert; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, Gladys Kennedy, Riley Pollard, David Pollard, and Vickie Herbeck.
