Mary Ragsdale Obituary

Mary Ruth Parrett-Ragsdale, 72, was taken home by the Lord on October 5, 2021 at 5:17 p.m. in the comfort of her home surrounded by her immediate family in Kerrville, TX. Our beloved Mary Ruth was born December 6, 1948 in Clay County, Alabama. She was brought into this world by her late parents, Samuel W. Parrett and Addie Parrett. Growing up she was surrounded by love from her 8 siblings.

Graduating from B.B. Comer High School in 1967. In 1970 she met the love of her life Phillip Don Ragsdale when he returned home from Vietnam. He quickly swooped her off her feet and they got married December 20, 1971. After getting married Don and Mary moved to Texas where they started their life together. Their child Christopher Ryan Ragsdale was born November 5, 1973 followed by the birth of their second baby boy, Phillip Drew Ragsdale on August 5, 1985. They raised their family in Austin, TX and provided for their family no matter what. Mary Ruth worked as a secretary at Century 21 and Don was an iron worker at local 482 in Austin.

She cherished her three grandchildren more than life itself. The first was Kennedy Lee Ragsdale who was born followed by Tucker James Ragsdale, and Addie Jane. Her one and only great grandchild, Korbin Abel Jackson was born March 24, 2017. She referred to him as Gigi’s sunshine.

Mary loved spending time with her family more than anything else in this world. Her family and friends hold on to the fact that Mary loved, cherished, and cared about them deeply. She loved listening to Elvis Presley, soaking up the sun, playing the piano, cooking for people, especially fried food, dancing with Don, watching Alabama and Texas Longhorn football games, riding around with the windows down, and the color red. She spent the last few days of her life living in Kerrville, TX, where Ryan, Kennedy, and Korbin also live and were by her side. In the last few days of Mary’s life, she spent time cooking, making cookies for Korbin, laughing with Kennedy, talking on the phone with family, hanging out with friends, going to the river, and watching Family Feud.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; siblings, Joyce Crabb, Faye Blanchard, Murlon Parrett, Lou Neal Burs, and Patricia Gramling. They all welcomed her into the gates of heaven with the Lord.

She will be missed dearly by her surviving family. Her children, Ryan Ragsdale and Drew Ragsdale; grandchildren, Kennedy, Tucker, and Addie; siblings, Frank Parrett, Calvin Parrett; great grandchild, Korbin; and other family members, Kris, David, Clay, Wesley, Tiffany, Jerri Ann, Phil, Michelle, Tammy, and many more.

Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killen, TX on October 27, 2021 at 2 p.m.. “What is grief, if not love persevering?” We will miss you dearly Mary Ruth, but your memory will live on forever.
