Monte Hensley Obituary

Monte J. Hensley, 86, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas.

Monte was born on August 17, 1939, in Modesto, California, to Zill and Marge Hensley. He spent much of his life in California and New Mexico before moving to Kerrville 16 years ago. Prior to settling in Texas, he resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he built a successful career and lifelong friendships.

Monte proudly served his country in the United States Army. He later graduated from California Polytechnic State University and worked for the California Highway Patrol, a career he held with pride and dedication. In addition to his public service, Monte was also a small business owner and operated Frontier Adjusters of Albuquerque.

In 1967, Monte married P. Meredith Hensley, the love of his life, in Carson City, Nevada. Together, they raised twin daughters, and Monte often said that his most important accomplishment in life was being their father.

A man of sharp intellect and wide-ranging interests, Monte was a member of Hill Country American Mensa, the Unitarian Universalist Church, the Mexico–Elmhurst Philatelic Society International (MEPSI), The Elks, and the Vagabonds Car Club in Stockton, California. He volunteered his time assisting with voter registration, reflecting his belief in civic responsibility and participation.

In his free time, Monte enjoyed traveling, reading, and studying history. He was known for his quick wit, love of puns, and engaging conversations. A devoted cat lover, he also had a lifelong passion for British sports cars and raced sports cars in his younger years. Monte was an avid philatelist with a special interest in international stamps, particularly those from Mexico, and was a true wine connoisseur who appreciated sharing good wine with good company.

Monte is survived by his beloved wife, P. Meredith Hensley; his twin daughters, Lisa Ochoa, DDS, and Amanda Hensley, M.D.; his brother, Mack Hensley of Stockton, California; and his grandchildren, Marisa Ochoa, Sam Ochoa, and Spencer Beresford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zill and Marge Hensley.

Services will be announced at a later date. Monte’s remains will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary at www.bestfriends.org.

Monte will be remembered as an intelligent, curious, and deeply devoted family man whose legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
