Pamela Burgess Obituary

Pamela Burgess—organizer of chaos, cookie weekend queen, feared enemy of poultry—found her eternal beach early Thursday morning, and honestly, she earned the hell out of it.

Pam was many things: fiercely loving, dryly hilarious, perpetually coordinating, and extremely suspicious of birds. She hated chicken. Hated turkey even more. If it had feathers and clucked, Pam wanted absolutely nothing to do with it—unless it was deep-fried irony on a T-shirt.

Though she didn’t enjoy cooking (too many dishes, too many steps, and again, too many birds), she loved baking and claimed her rightful place as bartender while others handled the stove. Her philosophy? “You sauté, I’ll crack open a cold one.”

Pam was the person who held our family calendar—and lives—together. Cookie Weekend, Relay for Life, Hobo parties: if it had a sign-up sheet, Pam was in charge of it, color-coded. She had the rare superpower of being able to organize both a fundraiser and your emotional baggage at the same time. She made us better and somehow made it look easy.

Her passing came quickly—just nine days after entering the hospital. Even in those final moments, she worried less about herself and more about her loved ones—especially her cherished dog, Spot. Pam didn’t want a traditional service, but someday soon, we’ll throw a bash in her honor with good drinks, loud laughter, and a strict “no birds allowed” policy.

She was also incredibly loyal to her work. Her “insurance family” was a huge and important part of her life—colleagues who became friends, and friends who became family. Even during her final days, Pam was cracking jokes. On her way to the hospital, she told the EMTs they could just drop her off at Garrett Insurance Agency instead. That was Pam: dedicated, dry-witted, and always thinking of others, even in the hardest moments.

Pam has now reunited with her soulmate Larry Pults, her beautiful daughter Wendy, her grandson Cole, her father Jay, and her mom Betty. No doubt she’s already taken charge of the beach-side reunion—organizing people, cracking jokes, and passing out lists.

She leaves behind the very best parts of herself in her daughter, Chelsea Luebke (husband Aaron), and son Shane Pults (wife Dawn). Her joy also lives on in her grandchildren Taylor, Trenton, Jake, Brooke, and Bailey, and her great-grandchildren Winter, Zayden, and Wimberly—each one of them raised on stories, sarcasm, and cookies.

Pam is also survived by her brother Pete (wife Linda), sister Patti (husband John), and sister Tammi (husband Blake). Her beloved nieces and nephews—who were more like her bonus kids—include Irena, Reanna, Joan, Morgan, Daniel, and David. She also leaves behind her loving stepmother and dear friend, Peggy, as well as a legion of cousins, lifelong friends, and honorary family who were blessed by her fierce loyalty and her unmatched ability to turn a simple gathering into a legendary event.

Pam was deeply loved, deeply funny, and deeply committed to doing things her way. The world feels a little less organized—and a lot less witty—without her. But somewhere on a perfect beach, there’s now a cold Miller Lite in her hand, a playlist of classic rock, and absolutely no birds in sight.

Rest easy, Pambo. We’ll take it from here—probably not as well as you did, but we’ll try.

In lieu of flowers, please consider the things that mattered most to Pam; stray or rescued dogs needing support from your favorite organization, American Cancer Society and your favorite Relay for Life team, and especially Peterson Hospice who provided the most compassionate, loving care to her and the family in her final days.
