Peter Brian Caldwell, LCDR USN (Ret), of Tierra Linda Ranch, Kerrville, TX, lost his long and courageous battle with ALS on June 13, 2024.
Born on Sept. 30, 1947, in Illinois, and raised in Southern California, Pete embraced a lifetime of adventure. Propelled by surfing, boats, motorcycles, and fishing, he cemented his love for the outdoors. After graduating from Cal State Long Beach, he pursued flying as a career, with a commission in the United States Navy. He was proud of, and thankful for, his time in service to his country. Navy flying led to airline flying, and he began a career with Continental Airlines in the state he loved the most, Colorado. There, he perfected the art of subsistence hunting and began a legacy of yearly hunting trips with friends and family who meant so much to him.
With his late wife, Jackie, Pete raised three strong-willed daughters and brought them up in the Colorado mountains, where they too embraced his adventurous spirit. The airline sent the family to Texas, and Pete once again took to the water living on Lake Conroe. In Texas, Pete found a community. He also found love with his wife, Paula. Pete and Paula later moved to Kerrville to spend their retirement on their beloved ranch, with views and wildlife that fueled their spirits.
In Kerrville, Pete was actively involved in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), the Harley Owners Group (HOG), the Kerrville Genealogical Society (KGS), and the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW). He served in their Youth Leadership Conference program which provides leadership education to promising high-school students.
To Pete, everyone was a friend, and an unsuspecting target for a long-winded story of epic proportions. With such experience and fervor behind them, his stories remain unparalleled.
Peter is survived by his wife, Paula; children, ReAnn Johnson (Tom), Krista Caldwell, Tiffany Habermann (Mike), Sherry Giachino (Mike) and Michael Follette; grandchildren, Kaiden and Luke Lopez, Madeline and Victoria Habermann, Chase Johnston, Joseph Giachino, and Jade Follette; great-grandson, Riley Johnston; and his sister, Karen Wresch (Mike).
