Robert Haygood Obituary

My father, Robert Haygood, was born on July 28, 1944, and passed from this life on August 7, 2024 at the age of 80 years old. He leaves behind his only child, Tony Haygood, of Fort Worth, Texas, along with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My dad had an extensive career in law enforcement, spanning nearly 40 years and covering multiple states. He was in law enforcement for all of my growing-up years. The first one to arrive at the scene of the crime, the first one ready to save a life, and always willing to do whatever it took to catch the bad guy. And he caught quite a few in his time! He has been a deputy, a patrolman, a detective, a crime scene investigator, and a chief of police.

I suppose my dad could do just about anything. He could tear anything apart, find out what was wrong with it, and fix it on the spot. He was a bit rough. He was very tough. He’s been through some things, and he could handle a lot.

He liked his coffee black and his bacon crisp. He taught me how to build stuff, how to fix stuff, how to blow stuff up, and put the fire out when I was done. He was a hard worker, and even into his 70s, he was trying to figure out a way to get back out there and do it again. He taught me how to shoot a gun, how to reload, and shoot again. He had me on the shooting range when I was six years old, the police shooting range, of course! He could use a knife, make a knife, and sharpen a knife. He could dress up or down, whatever was needed at the time. He wore what he wanted to, and he could tell you exactly how he felt. He didn’t hold back. He’s been compared to Clint Eastwood and Liam Neeson, and sometimes both at the same time. My dad, Robert Haygood, was a man, an American man!  I just thought you should know how I felt about him!

I loved my dad so much, and I will miss him greatly.
