Robert (Rob) Edward Richie, 82, passed away on May 13 at his home in Kerrville, Texas. He was with his wife and other family members surrounded by love.
Bob was born in St. Louis, MO on April 30, 1939 to Robert Richie and Edith Moxey. His family then moved to Illinois where he was raised. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1957 in Decatur, IL. After going to college for a few years, joining the Army, marrying his first wife, Patricia Sheppard, was later stationed in Alaska. After six years in service, he was discharged and worked in many towns across Alaska. He later finished his degree in Sociology at the University of Alaska. In 1998 he married again to Judy Richie in Anchorage, Alaska. They then moved to Valdez, Alaska where Bob worked for Alyeska Pipeline Service who managed to Alaska Pipeline. He worked as a Cost Engineer and Project Manager. Upon retiring they moved to Kerrville, TX in 2003.
In the early years in Kerrville, Bob was a member of the Master Naturalist and volunteered at the Bat Tunnel. He also volunteered at the VA hospital for a time. Later his main interest was the Hill Country Amateur Club. He volunteered in many ways including giving tests for Licensing for Ham Radio.
Bob had a love of learning and his favorite subjects were geology, archeology, religions, history among many subjects.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Richie, his mother Edith Moxey Richie and sister Lois Basham.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Richie, his two children Erica McCormick of San Antonio and Geoffrey Richie of Longmont, WA, stepchildren, Jenny Wyman of Cedar Park, TX, Janet Wyman of Kyle, TX, Julie Wyman of Brookshire, TX, Jane Wyman of Delta, CO, Bill Wyman of Gunnison, CO, and Jeanne Urbany of Austin, TX, 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bob was greatly loved by all his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a late date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
