Ronald Eugene Simmons Sr.

Ronald Eugene Simmons, 79, went to be with the Lord on February 09, 2020 in Kerrville. He was born on June 18, 1940 in Henderson, Texas to Thomas Maurice Simmons and Elsie Jewell Saunders Simmons. Ron married Frieda Marie Meier (1962) in Kerrville. Ron graduated from Junction High School in 1958. Ron joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country as an Airman Basic. After his military service, he and Frieda married and moved to Kerrville in 1962. Ron worked as a technician for the City of Kerrville- Public Works, a millworker for the local cedar mill, a park ranger for Texas Parks and Wildlife, and a tool and die maker for Mooney Airport. Ron was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans- Texas Division. He would help restore Confederate Veterans' gravesites. Ron was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church and would volunteer in different capacities for the church. He was always more than ready, willing and able to aid a friend or family member who needed help whether it be fixing up a car or some sort of project around a house or property. He had a great love of country music and was the biggest Johnny Cash fan. He often attended the Country Music Festival in Houston with his family. He enjoyed taking his family on camping and fishing trips at various state parks around Texas. They frequently visited the ranch of Ron's favorite President, Lyndon B. Johnson. In Ron's pastime, he enjoyed working in his workshop on various projects, especially making picture frames. He was a proud and responsible gun owner and was licensed with concealed carry permit. Ron enjoyed shooting his guns at the range and skeet shooting. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Elsie, his son, Ronald Eugene Simmons Jr. and his brother, James Earl Simmons. Ron leaves behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Frieda Simmons of Kerrville; son, Thomas Simmons of Leander; daughter Deborah Riherd of Houston; granddaughters, Grace Simmons and Madelynn Simmons of Leander; sisters, Melba Grayson and Wanda Funchess of Beaumont. Celebration of life will be held 11 am, Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at Wright's Funeral Parlor, Kerrville. The ashes will be scattered thereafter at the Simmons' family gravesite at Junction Cemetery in Junction. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Frieda Simmons or remembrances in the forms desired by family and friends.
