William "Bill" Terry Obituary

William Thomas Terry, known to many as Bill, passed away surrounded by the love of is family on January 22, 2026, at his home in Kerrville, Texas.

Bill was born on December 18, 1943, in Bonham, Texas, to William Thomas Terry II and Blanche Moll Terry. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Dallas, where Bill grew up and graduated from high school in 1962. During his high school years, Bill met the love of his life, Carla Darr. The two were married in 1963 and shared a devoted marriage that spanned more than six decades. Together, they welcomed one daughter, Michelle, who remained the pride of Bill’s life.

At just 19 years old, Bill began his career as a firefighter—a profession he proudly served for 30 years. Like many firefighters of his era, Bill worked more than one trade, and for 25 years he was also a custom home builder, known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. In addition to his civilian career, Bill honorably served in the United States Army during the 1960s. In 2018, Bill and Carla became full-timers and embraced a life of adventure, traveling across the United States. They lovingly referred to this chapter as their “gypsy lifestyle,” creating memories and friendships along the way. During this time, they were active members of the DFD RV Club, enjoying rallies with their friends. When Bill’s health began to decline, they settled in Kerrville, Texas, to enjoy a quieter pace of life.

Bill had a deep love for hunting and cars and enjoyed watching movies. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in everything he did. His family described him as an introvert—yet friendly, handsome, and deeply loving. Bill was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose quiet presence left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Terry; his daughter, Michelle Schroeder, his son-in-law, Matt, and his grandchildren, Will Schroeder and Sydney Schroeder; and Jerry and Linda Stout and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Dallas Area.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Gary Sinise Foundation, The Salvation Army, or the charity of your choosing.
